Memorial Day Weekend in Las Cruces, NM
There is a lot happening this Memorial Day Weekend, and a lot more things are going to happen in the next few weeks. We are proud to live in Las Cruces. I thought that I would take a few moments to let you know what is happening this weekend and what is to come.
May 23, 24, 25 is Memorial Day Weekend
Just a note that Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (on May 25 in 2009). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action.
For history buffs and more about the holiday itself, visit http://www.usmemorialday.org
I think, at this time with America’s young men and women in harms way in so many places around the world, the words of Abraham Lincoln tell us why so many have died in the past, and so many more are putting their lives at risk right now.
“…that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion, that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation under God, …and that government of the people by the people and for the people shall not perish from the earth.”
PLEASE, Don’t forget to show your support for those that have served and died and those still in harms way. FLY YOUR FLAG!
Anyone who would like a small flag for their lawn (FREE), we will personally deliver it and place it on your lawn. Just click here
