iPhone vs. Blackberry for Real Estate: Part II

In Part I of this two part blog, I started the process of deducing which of the top two smart phones would be the most ideal for a real estate professional. Part I dealt mostly with the two biggest mobile service providers in the US, AT&T and Verizon, and looked at the pros and cons of having an iPhone with AT&T versus a Blackberry with Verizon. So far, I have come to the conclusion that Verizon’s service coverage is the most expanisive, therefore the safest route to take when it comes to choosing between a Blackberry and an iPhone. However, AT&T’s service coverage in the Las Cruces area is still pretty decent, and the iPhone is still a strong contender.
After I started looking at personal reviews of the two phones on various websites, I discovered that both of the phones offer different applications and programs that separate themselves from the competition. I decided to compile a list of the most helpful real estate-oriented apps that every professional should be aware of.
The iPhone:
OffMaps is an updated, cooler version of the regular old map application. Unlike most apps, which need at least 2 bars of service to run, OffMaps lets you map out a destination, save it to your iPhone, and search the map offline. This could be especially helpful to the real estate professional who deals with listings in a huge metropolitan area, where it’s nearly impossible to know/remember where everything is in a neighborhood. This app is also great for that scary moment when your phone suddenly drops service, and won’t find it again – you won’t lose what you were searching for and will be able to continue working!
Evernote is one of the coolest apps I’ve ever seen. The organizational benefits of this app are huge! From being able to snap a picture of a business card of a client or colleague in which the text automatically becomes search-able, to recording a voice memo to file under “personal,” Evernote seems like a little piece of Heaven. I could take a picture of a potential client’s card and when I plug my phone into my computer, the text automatically syncs as a contact on whatever operating system I run. That is cool.
Real Estate Search would be helpful for any real estate professional who wants to stay on top of the market, since it updates its listings every 15 minutes. For all those times I’ve found myself wanting to work while waiting for something, I could pop on to this app and scroll through new listings for my buying clients. If my clients also had an iPhone, I could easily share the tracking number of a particular listing and send them that email all in 5 minutes.
The more I read and research, the more I realize I have to write! I want to do this argument justice, and therefore this blog has become a 3-part piece. In the next portion, I will discuss the top Blackberry apps for real estate professionals, as well as the helpful apps that both the iPhone and Blackberry possess.
Stay tuned for Part III: the Blackberry apps!
